Merriman Valley was once known as “Rubber Baron Heights,” because many prominent figures of the rubber industry had their homes in this area. Both Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company were based out of Akron, so it was a big deal to have the captains of the rubber industry living in Merriman Valley.
